Since the time of John Baptist, Jesus Christ and His early Church, Believers have been using water baptism as one of their Christian ordinances, but with a wide variance of applied practices. This article will be helpful to all Christians refocusing on this subject according to Biblical teachings and fundamental practices of the early apostles and Christians who immediately obeyed the instructions of our Lord Jesus Christ, and thus we trust that it will be a blessing to you as a serious student of God’s Word. God bless you now in your approach to Him!
Jesus Taught.“Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His Name, beginning at Jerusalem.” Luke 24:47.

Peter Obeyed.“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.” Acts 2:38-39.

Samaritans Are Baptized.“They were baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus.” Acts 8:16.

Gentiles Are Commanded. “He commanded them to be baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus.” Acts 10:48.

Paul Re-baptized Ephesians.“When they heard this they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus.” Acts 19:3-5.

No Other Name For Salvations.“There is none other name under Heaven whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:10-12.

Everything Is Done In Jesus’ Name.“Whatsoever you do in word or in deed, do all in the Name of the Lord Jesus.” Colossians 3:17.

The Apostles Knew and obeyed Jesus’ command of Matthew 28:19 where Jesus told apostles to baptize “in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” THEY KNEW what most religious leaders of today fail to recognize. First, that the Lord Jesus Christ is the family Name, Ephesians 3:15. Second, that the fullness of the Godhead (Deity or God) dwelleth bodily in Christ, Colossians 2:9. THEY KNEW the LORD JESUS CHRIST was the Name for the titles of Father, Son, Holy Ghost, Matthew 1:21. THEY KNEW the Son came in the Father’s Name; John 5:43. They also knew the Holy Ghost was the Spirit of Christ and would come in Jesus’ Name. John 14:26. THEY KNEW the Name Jesus means “Jehovah salvation.” (Fausset’s Bible Encyclopedia, page 359)

Baptism:“There is only one Lord, one Faith and one baptism.” Ephesians 4:5. There is only one Bible way to be baptized. Have you been baptized correctly?

Water: “Can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized?” Acts 10:47.

Much Water: “John also was baptizing at Aenon, because there was much water there.” John 3:23.

Into The Water: “Both went down into the water, both Phillip and the eunuch: and he baptized him.” Acts 8:38.

Out Of The Water: “They come up out of the water.” Acts 8:39.

Buried In Water: “We are buried with him by baptism into death.” Romans 6:4.

Planted In Water: “We have been planted together in the likeness of His death.” Romans 6:5.

Jesus Said“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” Mark 16:16.

Peter Said “…there were eight saved by water in Noah’s time, the like figure even baptism doth also now save us.” I Peter 3:20-21. Peter having the keys to the Kingdom, said, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.” Acts 2:38.

Baptism Is Important, and immersion (not sprinkling) is the Bible method, so don’t you think that you should be correctly baptized before it is too late?

Jesus Said To Baptize In “The Name”. Matthew 28:19. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” Titles are not “the Name” of Jesus Christ. Mark 16:16. “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” Luke 24:47. “Repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his Name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”

Peter Baptized In “The Name” Jesus Christ. Acts 2:37-39. “Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

No Other Name Whereby We Must Be Saved. Acts 4:10. “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Samaritans Of Samaria. Acts 8:12. “When they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the Name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

Ethiopian Eunuch Under Queen Candace. Acts 8:27. “A man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship.” Acts 8:36-39. “As they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.”

Cornelius’ House Of Gentiles. Acts 10:44-48. “While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the Name of the Lord.”

Gentiles Receive Holy Ghost After Baptism. Acts 11:15-18. “As I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.”

Saleswoman Lydia Of Thyatira. Acts 16:14-18. “A certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us. And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.”

Chief Ruler Crispus & Many Corinthians. Acts 18:7-8. “He departed thence, and entered into a certain man’s house, named Justus, one that worshiped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue. And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.”

Paul Tells Of Being Batpized By Ananias. Acts 9:18. “Immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.” Acts 22:16. “Why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the Name of the Lord.”

Ehesus Men Are Re-baptized Correctly. Acts 19:1-6. “It came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And all the men were about twelve.”

John Calvin: Presbyterian. “The word ‘baptize’ signifies to immerse. It is certain that immersion was the practice of the primitive church.”

Martin Luther: Lutheran. “Baptism is the Greek word, and may be translated ‘immerse’. I would have those who are to be baptized to be altogether dipped.”

John Wesley: Methodist. “The Bible term, buried with Him by baptism, alludes to the ancient manner of baptizing by immersion.”

Wall: Episcopalian. “Immersion was in all probability the way in which our blessed Savior and, for certain, the way in which all early Christians were baptized.”

Brenner: Catholic. “For the first thirteen hundred years baptism was an immersion of the person under water.”

Stoudza: Native Greek. “The verb ‘baptize’ has only one meaning. It signifies to plunge. Baptism and immersion are identical. To say ‘baptism by sprinkling’ would be to say ‘immersion by sprinkling’.'”

Jeremiah: Greek Patriot. “The ancient did not sprinkle the candidate, but immersed him.”

Whitfield: Methodist. “It is certain that the word buried, in the text, Romans 6:4, alludes to the matter of baptizing by immersion.”

Britannica Encyclopedia, 11th Edition, Vol. 3, Page 365-366. The baptismal formula was changed from the Name of Jesus Christ to the words “Father, Son and Holy Ghost” by the Catholic Church in the second century.

Britannica Encyclopedia,Vol. 3, Page 82. Everywhere in the oldest sources it states that baptism took place in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Canney Encyclopedia Of Religion, Page 53. The early Church always baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus until development of trinity doctrine in the second century.

Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. 2, Page 263. Here the Catholics acknowledged that baptism was changed by the Catholic Church in the second century.

Hastings Encyclopedia Of Religion, Vol. 2. Page 377. Christian baptism was administered using the words, “In the Name of Jesus.” Page 378, the use of a trinitarian formula of any sort was not suggested in early church history. Page 389, baptism was always in the Name of the Lord Jesus until the time of Justin Martyr when a triune formula started.

Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. 8. Justin martyr was one of the early fathers of the Roman Catholic Church.

Hastings Encyclopedia Of Religion, Vol. 2, Page 377, Acts 2:38. Name was an ancient synonym for “person.” Payment was always made in name of some person referring to ownership. Therefore one being baptized in Jesus’ Name became His personal property. “Ye are Christ’s.”

New International Encyclopedia, Vol. 22, Page 477. The term “trinity” was originated by Tertullian, a Roman Catholic Church father.

Catholics Put Jesus Out In 325 A.D. The Name of Jesus Christ was removed from water baptism at the Nicene Council in Rome, 325 A.D., when backslidden Christianity amalgamated with pagan Rome and formed the Roman Catholic Church and added a trinity of gods, and started using titles of “Father, Son, Holy Ghost.” Catholic daughters, protestant churches, continued baptizing like Catholics, but contrary to what Jesus, Peter and the early Church did for 325 years.

If you’ve got a prophet that says you should be baptized in the titles of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, it’s a false prophet. If you say there’s a prophet among you that says there’s three gods, it’s a false prophet. There’s no Scripture for none of it. That’s right. But a true prophet of God will stay with that Word. And if his vision’s contrary to that Word, he’s not a true prophet from God. Nowhere in the Bible anybody was ever baptized in the title of Father, Son, Holy Ghost.

Look at Paul up there in prison, a little hook-nose Jew, baldheaded laying up there, spending twenty years in a Roman prison. He wrote these letters. Now, what do you think the women preacher thought about Paul when he said, “Let them women keep silent in churches; I don’t permit them to speak”? I imagine they could’ve really worked on him. What do you think them bishops thought, them bishops, when they said all these different things, “Quit this here stuff, and this here, all this, that… Paul, telling them… Who is this guy anyhow, this guy laying up there in prison?” But he had met Jesus. He knowed what he was talking about. And out of that same group, after the death of Paul, they finally formed out of that bunch of bishops and high ups, to the Nicene Council, and that formed the Catholic church, getting away from the Word of God. There come in your Father, Son, Holy Ghost. I challenge anybody, anywhere, any nation to disprove it.

THUS SAITH THE LORD the baptism using the title of Father, Son, Holy Ghost is false. THUS SAITH THE LORD, I command every one of you on here or on tape that hasn’t been baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ, be baptized again in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Lord, in the Light of Your Word, I command every person that’s not baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ to hasten to the water quickly while you have a chance. You who have not been filled with the Holy Ghost, I command you in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ; fall to your knees and don’t get up until the Holy Spirit has sanctified you thoroughly and filled you with His love and goodness until your soul is so satisfied in the Presence of God that your whole desire is to serve Him and walk for Him and work with Him all the rest of your life. Grant it, I pray, that God will give you this charge, in Jesus Christ’s Name.

Now if you’ve never been baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins, remember, “There is not another name under Heaven given among man whereby you must be saved, but the Name of Jesus Christ.” Remember, there is only one Bride, the Bride of Christ, and that bears His Name.

Now, and if you’ve never been baptized by immersing in water, in the Name of Jesus Christ, let me as His servant… If God has proven to you by signs and wonders, and by His Word, that I tell the Truth; I command you as Saint Paul did, in Acts 19, who found a bunch of Baptists. They had been baptized by John the Baptist. He said, “Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?”

They said, “We know… whether there be any Holy Ghost.”

He said, “Then to what was you baptized?”

They said, “We’ve been baptized already, by John the Baptist, out in the Jordan, the same man that baptized Jesus Christ.”

That would be a wonderful baptism, but Paul said, “It’s no good now.” He commanded them they would have to be rebaptized again, in the Name of Jesus Christ, Acts 19:5.

And Paul said, “If an Angel comes down from Heaven and preaches any other gospel than This that I have preached, let him be accursed,” Galatians 1:8. Then he repeated it again, said, “As I have said, so say I again. ‘Though a Angel,'” let alone a minister, bishop, pope, or whatever it might be, “if a Angel come down from Heaven, a–a Cherubim out of the Heavens, and preached another gospel than That, let him be cursed.”

Then, I command you, if you’ve never been baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ, while the water is in the pool, and the robes are waiting, come and be baptized, “Calling upon the Name of the Lord, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost; for the promise is unto you and to your children, and to them that’s far off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
